People do not normally associate Christcenteredness with liturgy, but we believe that through the liturgy Christ is made known. Every church has a liturgy or an order of service, but one must ask: is that order biblical, deliberate, edifying and reverent? We believe it is wise to go beyond our own generation in seeking answers to such questions. Knowing that we celebrate a faith “once for all delivered to the saints,” we seek to give our Christian forefathers a voice in our service in order that we might link our present worship with Christ’s work in history.
Therefore at Providence our worship incorporates the ancient creeds of the Church and uses liturgy that has its roots in the early church.
In the liturgy Christ is made known as the pattern of the Gospel gloriously unfolds before us every Lord’s Day. In the service God calls us to Himself, cleanses us as we confess our sins, consecrates us as we hear His Word, communes with us at His table, and commissions us to serve Him in the world by serving others. The whole of the service is saturated in God’s Word. This is necessary because all week long we have competing voices telling us “who we are” or “who we should be.” It is through the worship of the church that God reorders us by coming to remind us where our true identity is found, namely in Christ “who is our life.”
Therefore our worship is based on God’s Word and the pattern of the Gospel.
