The story of humanity unfolds from Genesis to Revelation; from Adam dwelling in the garden to the redeemed dwelling with God in the new heavens and the new earth. In the Bible, God makes known that the only way that sinful man can get from here to there, from the garden to the new creation, is through the life story of another, Jesus Christ.
Therefore, at Providence we are committed to preaching Christ from all of Scripture and finding our life story in His life story.
We believe that Christ is primarily made known to us by the Spirit through the preaching of the Gospel. As Paul wrote, “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.”
Therefore we focus on the faithful preaching of God’s infallible Word in order that we might know Christ by hearing Him as His gospel is proclaimed.
Along with this, we believe Christ is made known in the sacraments of the church; baptism and the Lord’s Supper. As Paul said concerning the Supper, “For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.” And as he spoke concerning baptism, “For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.”
Therefore we partake of the Supper weekly, and administer baptism to all those of the household of faith, for through these means the word and promise of God are shown forth and impressed upon us by His Spirit.
