This year we are going to be starting two Bible studies that will meet in the homes of our members.  The study will be divided by location giving us a Northern group led by Pastor Pirschel and a Southern group led by Elder Taylor.  The map showing how the division will take place is below.  Basically the line is Winchester and Nicolas Rd.  Below the line = South, Above = North (Wine Country and Aguanga are South). 

The Northern Group’s first meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 19 at 7 PM.  The location of the study will be 31553 Whitefield Ct., Murrieta CA, 92563.  

The Southern Group’s first meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 20 at 7 PM.  The location for the first meetings of this study will be 44776 Marzi Court Temecula, CA 92592.  

The topic of our study for the year is, “Godly Homes for the Sake of the World”.  We will begin with 5 studies focused on the nature and roles of marriage and our need for God’s empowering grace to fulfill this high calling.  We will then have 3 studies focused on the purpose and goal of children, seeking God’s wisdom to raise our children with a focus on God’s glory and our children’s good.  Then, in the New Year, we want to turn our attention to how God might use our homes to expand His Kingdom, with a focus on serving our unbelieving neighbors and friends through hospitality as a means of opening doors for the Gospel.  We hope this will focus our attention on the purpose of a godly home; God’s glory and the blessing of others.

Chili Cook-off and Dessert Bake-off

Coming up on Saturday, October the 30^th is our 10^th Annual Men’s Chili Cook-off.  We will be meeting at Trinity Lutheran Church on Pauba Rd for the event.  All Chili entries are due to arrive at 12:00 PM and the eating will begin shortly after that.  Men, if you have not signed up already, please do so soon.  You can sign up by emailing fishleggs at gmail.com

The competition is going to be exceptionally tough this year and several men are already dodging the competition out of fear.  Josh Shultz took a new job just to avoid the humiliation, Brandon Chase signed up for a class on Saturdays due to his lack of chili bravado and some of you have yet to put your name down in black and white (don’t make me write a separate e-mail about you…you know who you are).  But while there is a fair amount of fear among the ranks, there is also quite a bit of chest thumping going on.  Old “Cumin Juice” Mika promises a strong showing.  “Too Sweet” Taylor is hoping to win both the Chili Cook-off and the Dessert Bake-off with the same entry.  And Broc “Shredded Beef” Seaman nearly did me physical harm when I questioned whether he had signed up or not.  It is shaping up to be a good competition, please join in. 

May the best chili win; and may the rest of you fight it out for second. 

Now, along with the Chili Cook-off this year, we will also be having a Dessert Bake-off for the ladies.  The rules for the Dessert Bake-Off are as follows,

Any pie or cake may be entered into the Bake-Off.

1.  It must be made from scratch – no store-bought fillings, frostings or crusts.
2.  The judges will be evaluating taste – .for example, this is not a cake decorating contest.  
3. The entry will be brought whole and sliced before serving.  
4. They will be served room temperature (not hot). Refrigeration is fine, if necessary. 
5. Entries must be brought fully prepared.  
6. Pies/cakes will be anonymous to judges.

 The desserts will be judged by the men who place in the Chili Cook-Off (more details to come). 

For the lady who wins this competition there will be a trophy that will not only be beautiful in form but also in function.  You won’t want to miss it!
